The composition and principle of brake shoes

The friction materials we generally see are made into sheets, which we usually call brake pads, but in our life there is a brake pad called brake shoe, which is mainly used in the braking of motorcycles, and its shape resembles an animal. The hoof, probably also named after it!

The brake shoe is mainly composed of brake drum, return spring, positioning pin, friction plate and other components. The brake drum is installed on the wheel hub and is a part that rotates with the wheel. It is made of a certain weight of metal material.

When the brake shoe receives an urging force at one end, it can swing outward around the fulcrum at the other end and press against the inner circular surface of the brake drum to generate frictional torque. When the brake is stepped on, the drive mechanism expands the circular brake shoe, and the surface is inlaid with friction pads, which rubs violently with the inner surface of the brake drum, forcing the rotating brake drum to gradually slow down until it stops rotating. When the brakes are released, the brake shoes return to their original position.
