The important role of friction material in brake pads

It seems that the structure is very simple. A layer of friction material, a layer of iron plate, that's all we see. Is that really all there is? Sometimes what the eyes see is not necessarily all. In fact, a high-quality brake pad has layers interlocking in its structure, and each layer plays an indispensable role. So what are the materials and functions of each layer of structure?

In fact, a high-quality brake pad looks very simple in structure.

1. Friction material

The friction material is undoubtedly the core part of the entire brake pad, and the formula of the friction material directly affects the braking performance and braking comfort of the friction pad (with or without noise and vibration). At present, friction materials are mainly divided into three categories according to the formula: semi-metallic materials, NAO materials (asbestos-free organic materials) and ceramic materials.

2. Insulation layer

During the braking process of the vehicle, due to the high-speed friction between the brake pad and the brake disc, a large amount of heat is generated instantaneously. If the heat is directly transferred to the metal back plate of the brake pad, it will cause the brake cylinder to overheat, and in severe cases may cause The dynamic fluid creates air resistance. Therefore, there is a layer of thermal insulation between the friction material and the metal back plate. After the brake pads are ablated by high temperature and high pressure, the running-in period between the new brake pads and the original brake discs will be shortened, and the high temperature of the brakes can be effectively isolated, so as to maintain a stable braking safety distance and braking comfort.

3. One-time hot pressing

The brake pad adopts one-time molding hot pressing technology to ensure the stability of the product's hardness, density and other indicators. The safety factor is higher, and the safety of car owners is always protected.

4. Backplane

The role of the back plate is to support the overall structure of the friction material, and transmit the braking force of the brake cylinder, so that the friction material of the brake pad and the brake disc are efficiently bonded. The back plate of the brake pad has the following characteristics:

a. meet stringent durability specifications;

b. Ensure the safe operation of friction materials and brake calipers;

c. With a layer of high-quality environmental protection coating;

d. Environmentally friendly and anti-rust, durable to use.

5. Silencer

The imported sound-absorbing sheet is selected on the back plate, and it is coated with a layer of absorbing coating, which is used to suppress vibration noise and improve braking comfort.
