New Carbon Fibre Friction Materials

1 Two types of friction materials

Traditionally, wet friction materials are manufactured by mixing the ingredients of paper paddle friction materials. Such paper-based friction materials made by traditional process means show some obvious disadvantages under high load conditions of use:

(1) Compared to copper-based friction materials, paper-based materials present poor temperature resistance while having a high coefficient of friction;

(2) Paper-based materials have better oil compatibility than copper-based materials. However, this compatibility is still insufficient in practical use;

(3) The poor thermal conductivity of paper-based materials is more likely to produce localised hot spots on the surface under high loads.

The solution to the above problems is to use carbon fibre as the friction material.

But in fact, people do not widely use carbon fibre as friction village material, the main reason is due to the use of carbon fibre friction material after the cost is too high, the general cost of high-quality paper-based friction material is about 80 yuan per kilogram, if the use of carbon fibre, the cost of up to 520 yuan per kilogram.

Carbon fibre as a friction material can meet the design requirements of the transmission's braking system, which has the characteristics:

(1) high and constant coefficient of dynamic friction; (2) the ratio of dynamic and static coefficient of friction is close to 1:1; (3) short break-in period; (4) small wear; (5) good overload resistance; (6) good oil compatibility.

For this reason to the manufacturer put forward such a topic: the requirement to improve the performance of the friction material while maintaining the original price of the product.
