Knowledge Points of Brake Pads
Friction Layer: The outer friction material, a consumable component.
Steel Backing Plate: Metal base fixed onto the caliper piston.
Vibration & Noise Damping Shim: Attached to the backing plate to eliminate brake noise and vibration.
Wear Indicator Clip (Wear Warning Shim) When brake pads wear down to the limit (remaining thickness: 2~3 mm), the metal clip rubs against the brake rotor and emits a sharp squealing sound to signal an urgent replacement.
Criteria for Brake Pad Replacement
Abnormal Noise Check: High-pitched metal squeal during low-speed braking means the wear indicator is activated; replace immediately.
Thickness Measurement: Replace right away if the friction layer is thinner than 3 mm; brand-new pads are roughly 10~15 mm thick.
Brake Pedal Feel: Spongy pedal, extended braking distance, or vehicle pulling to one side while braking.
Visual Inspection: Cracks, chipped fragments, or partial carbonization/black scorching on brake pads.
Reference Service Life (For reference only; road conditions have a significant impact)
Urban commuting: 40,000–60,000 kilometers
Frequent traffic jams & mountain roads: 20,000–30,000 kilometers
Mostly highway driving with infrequent braking: Approximately 80,000 kilometers
