Composition of Friction Materials
Matrix Material: Usually resin - based or metal - based materials. Resin - based matrix materials, such as phenolic resins, have good heat resistance and mechanical properties. Metal - based matrix materials, like copper - based and iron - based alloys, possess high strength and thermal conductivity.
Reinforcement Material: It includes fibers such as aramid fibers, glass fibers, and carbon fibers. These fibers enhance the mechanical strength and wear resistance of the friction material. For example, aramid fibers have high strength and good heat resistance, while carbon fibers have excellent thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion.
Friction - regulating Additives: Such as metal oxides (aluminum oxide, titanium dioxide), sulfides (molybdenum disulfide), and graphite. These additives can adjust the friction coefficient of the material, improve its wear resistance and heat resistance, and reduce noise and vibration during the friction process.
