Brake Pad Common Faults and Their Treatment

Why can't the brakes stop?

In fact, we have talked a lot about braking, mostly from the perspective of ABS and conventional braking. Today we will start from a small perspective, and talk about common faults of brake pads and how to deal with them.

Fault 1: Beep

A: Human factors.

1. It sounds after removing the original car film and replacing it with a new film.

At present, according to the actual situation, the probability of the original car brake pad scratching the original car brake disc is more than 50%. The driver did not believe that the original car film was damaged.

Therefore, when replacing the new disc, we often do not take the initiative to check whether there are scratches on the brake disc, and wait until the new disc sounds to check again, only to find that there are scratches on the brake disc. The factory compensates for the brake disc, which is obviously a scapegoat caused by human factors.

Handling method: When replacing the brake pads, you must first check whether there are scratches on the brake disc. If there are scratches, it is recommended to smooth the scratches or replace the new disc. If the driver disagrees, it should be noted on the maintenance list and the driver Signed by the driver, this will prevent the driver from claiming compensation due to sound or damage to the disc in the future.

2. The surface of the brake disc is flat, but it sounds when the new disc is installed.

The first reason for this may be that the repairman installed the brake pads biasedly, and when the brake pads were removed, it could be seen that there were only partial friction marks on the surface of the brake pads.

Handling method: Can be removed and reinstalled.

The second reason is that the size of the same type of brake pads is inconsistent among various domestic manufacturers, especially the width. The size deviation between manufacturers can reach up to 3 mm. This leads to the fact that although the surface of the brake disc looks smooth, if a large-sized brake pad is installed on a brake disc that has been rubbed by a small-sized brake pad, it will also sound.

Treatment method: CD first, if you can drive for a period of time without the CD, the sound will not be heard after the traces match.

The third reason is that it suddenly sounds after driving for a period of time. . However, when it is removed for inspection, sometimes the foreign matter has fallen off or worn away.

Handling method: CD-ROM, if there are foreign objects on the film, it should be removed and then installed. In this case, the disc damage is often only one of the four surfaces of the two discs, which is easy to see, but if the reason is not explained to the driver, it is easy to incur a claim.

After driving for a period of time, there is a sound, but it is not a squeaking sound, but a rattling sound, which may be caused by loose accessories on the brake pads.

Treatment: Retighten or replace with a new piece.

B: product factors

The sound mentioned here refers to the sound when the surface of the brake disc is completely smooth and flat. The reason is that the current national regulations prohibit the use of asbestos-containing brake pads, but domestic large manufacturers generally do so, while some small manufacturers are still producing and selling asbestos-containing brake pads.

Although semi-metallic and asbestos-free brake pads have a long mileage and are good for environmental protection and personal health, the material is hard and asbestos brake pads are soft, so they will not make noise even if there are scratches on the brake disc, and the braking feeling is soft. If this happens, you can only replace it with a new one.
