The role of brake pads

The role of the brake pad is to cooperate with the brake disc and brake drum to generate frictional torque to slow down or stop the vehicle. Brake pads are consumables in the braking system, we often need to replace them, and its quality directly affects the performance of the brakes.

Performance indicators of brake pads

There are many performance indicators of brake pads. The performance of the same brake pad is very different under different temperatures, different speeds, different braking pressures, etc. The main performances are as follows:

1. Braking performance; refers to the braking capacity (friction coefficient) of the brake pads under normal braking conditions (that is, when the braking temperature is relatively low).

2. Deterioration performance; in road conditions such as mountain road downhill, the brakes brake continuously, the temperature rises rapidly, the braking ability of the brake pads becomes worse, and the braking distance increases. This phenomenon is called "recession". The degradation rate of high-quality brake pads is very small, or even no degradation; while some fake and inferior products have serious degradation, and almost lose their braking ability at high temperatures.

3. Restoration performance: Can the brake pads that have undergone high temperature decay recover their original braking performance as soon as possible when the high temperature drops? This is also an important indicator to measure the quality of brake pads.

4. Abrasion: refers to the wear and tear of the brake pads during use.

5. Noise; In fact, there are many factors that cause brake noise, and brake pads are just one of them. For general tasks, if the hardness of the brake pad is too high, it is easy to generate noise.

6. Others; there are also performance indicators such as shear strength, strength, compressibility, thermal expansion, water absorption, adhesion, etc.
