The development history of friction plate

Friction plates first appeared more than 120 years ago. When power machinery appeared in the world, friction plates were used for transmission and braking. Let's talk about the development process of friction linings today!

The original friction plate was made of cotton, cotton cloth, leather, etc. as the base material, and was formed into a friction plate or a friction belt through special processing. However, due to the poor heat resistance of cotton, cotton cloth and leather, when the friction surface temperature reaches 120 , cotton and cotton cloth will gradually coke and burn. Gradually, this type of friction plate can not keep up with the requirements of the times. People began to look for suitable friction materials, and then people discovered asbestos, a mineral fiber, which made up for the shortcoming of poor heat resistance and was widely used.

Asbestos is a natural mineral fiber with high heat resistance (over 1000 degrees of ignition point), heat dissipation and mechanical strength, and good flexibility and strong plasticity. Perfect, but in the process of collection and production, asbestos fibers entered the body through the human respiratory tract, and were found to have a disease of "asbestosis". Therefore, people began to look for materials that can replace asbestos.

Since then, many new materials have appeared on the market, such as rubber-based, paper-based, resin-based, carbon fiber and semi-metal friction materials, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages. The technical requirements are still in use today.
