How Do Brake Shims Work?
Brake pad shims function by acting as a cushion between the brake pad and the caliper. When you press the brake pedal, the brake pads squeeze against the brake rotor to slow down the vehicle. Without shims, the metal backing plate of the brake pad could come into direct contact with the caliper, leading to friction and unwanted noise.
Brake Pad shim absorb the vibrations generated during braking and prevent the metallic components from producing squealing or grinding sounds. Additionally, they create a buffer that helps distribute the heat generated during braking, preventing excessive wear on the brake pads and rotors.
