The friction material products after hot pressing are heated at normal pressure for several hours at a temperature equivalent to or slightly higher than the hot pressing temperature to become heat treated. The purpose of heat treatment is as follows:

(1) The binder in the friction material component can be completely solidified, so that the friction performance of the product, especially the thermal friction performance, is stable.

(2) Eliminate thermal stress in friction material products after hot pressing to prevent warping deformation of the products.

(3) Make up for the artificial insufficient hot pressing time to improve the production efficiency of the press.

(4) Reduce the thermal expansion of hot pressed products.

2. Grinding processing

The geometric shape of the pressed product is determined by the shape of the hot pressing mold, but the size along the direction of pressure, that is, the thickness direction of the product, cannot be accurately determined by the mold. Therefore, the accurate thickness of the product can only be achieved through mechanical processing. Mechanical processing is mainly achieved by grinding with abrasive tools (grinding wheels, diamond grinding wheels, carbide grinding wheels, etc.), so it is usually called grinding. processing.

The grinding process is completed by a grinding machine dedicated to friction materials. According to the basic shape requirements of friction materials, grinding machines are divided into three types: clutch plate grinding machines, brake pad grinding machines and brake belt grinding machines. Clutch surface grinders can be divided into two types: single-sided grinders and double-sided grinders according to their working characteristics. Brake friction pad grinders can also be divided into three types: internal arc grinders, external arc grinders and disc disc surface grinders. The working principle of the brake belt grinder is the same as that of the brake pad external arc grinder, except that it is equipped with a belt feeding device.

3. Drilling

There are generally two methods for connecting friction materials and their supports: one is bonding and the other is riveting. The riveting connection process generally involves drilling process. The most typical hole shape of friction materials is stepped holes. At present, step holes are drilled in one step in this industry. The diameter of the large and small holes is guaranteed by the drill bit, the drilling depth of the large hole is guaranteed by the equipment, and the drilling depth of the small hole is determined by the drill bit.

4. Printing label

After the finished friction material products meet the quality inspection standards, it is generally required to print marks on the appropriate positions on the surface of the product: such as product grade, trademark, quality level and other relevant requirements, that is, the mark should be printed on the surface of the product.
