Discussion on Low Metal Formulation in Friction Materials

"Low-metallic" compound brake pads (Low-metallic) mainly use coarse steel wool as the reinforcing fiber and important compound. From the appearance (fine fibers and particles), asbestos type and non-asbestos organic type brake pads (NAO) can be easily distinguished, and they also have certain magnetic properties. Metal fibers are often used in European and American products to strengthen the structure of friction materials.

1. Formula definition:

Contains a small amount of steel fiber, iron powder, friction-increasing filler, lubricant and non-ferrous metals (such as copper, brass), and the properties of the friction material are European style. The content of steel fiber and iron powder is about 25% or less (there is no clear standard or definition at home and abroad).

Two, the main characteristics of performance:

1. Good wear resistance.

2. Improve the stability of initial braking force in hot and cold states.

3. Excellent high-speed, high-temperature anti-fading ability.

4. The difference in friction coefficient between high and low temperature is small.

5. Excellent thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity.

6﹑NVH has been greatly improved compared to semi-metals.

Three main problems:

1. In terms of performance, I will not introduce much for the time being, because the problem of semi-metal and low-metal also exist, but the degree or focus is different.

2. The definition of formula is mixed: because there is no uniform definition of low-metal formula at home and abroad, unlike semi-metal, there is a certain range, resulting in a variety of low-metal friction materials.
