Calorific value of spark plug

The spark plug calorific value is often more important than the type of spark plug. If the spark plug calorific value is not appropriate, the engine power decline, failure code, heavy engine cylinder explosion, crankshaft top bending. So what does the calorific value of a spark plug represent?


The calorific value of a spark plug is usually numbered from cold to hot (red box above). The Japanese NGK and Chinese national standard is named the spark plug label (as shown in the red box above) the smaller, the lower the calorific value, the worse the heat dissipation performance. Conversely, the larger the spark plug label, the higher the calorific value, the better the heat dissipation performance. However, it should be noted that spark plugs with low calorific value are called "hot spark plugs" because of poor heat dissipation. The spark plug with high heat value is called "cold spark plug" because of its good heat dissipation.

In addition to looking at the label, we can also distinguish from the appearance of the spark plug. If the ceramic structure under the spark plug is particularly long, it can prove that the spark plug is a low calorific value, thermal spark plug with poor thermal performance. In this way, the longer ceramic structure can effectively store the heat generated by the work done by the cylinder. On the contrary, if the ceramic structure of spark plug is very short, you can directly determine that this belongs to the cold spark plug with high calorific value and good heat dissipation performance.
Spark plugs have different calorific values because different engines produce different amounts of heat during operation, ignition times per unit of time, and average engine RPM.
If it is a high performance, high speed engine, then the heat generated inside the engine will naturally be higher, at this time you need to use a higher calorific value, that is, better heat dissipation cold spark plug to prevent heat accumulation. As for why to prevent heat accumulation, I will explain it in detail later, so let's continue to follow my rhythm.

On the contrary, if it is a low speed engine, or an engine that focuses on low speed and large torque output, the engine will run at low speed most of the time, so in order to maintain the spark plug temperature will match the relatively low calorific value, that is, the thermal spark plug with poor heat dissipation.
